Wood vs. PUPI
PUPI® tangents and crossarms are engineered for consistent strength and reliability.
PUPI crossarms are engineered and manufactured using a fiberglass pultrusion process that minimizes material and process variation including three levels of weathering protection.
Proven fiberglass field performance in every climate
Hundreds of thousands of PUPI fiberglass crossarms are at work in a wide range of environments throughout North America and around the world. From hot, wet and dry climates to extreme cold – not a single PUPI crossarm has failed due to environmental degradation.

PUPI Configuration Engine
This tool can help you quickly specify the right size crossarm and drill pattern for your project requirements.
Field-ready in standard sizes, or made-to-order and drilled to spec; PUPI offers the largest selection of Rural Utilities Service-accepted fiberglass composite crossarms and deadend assemblies in the industry. Based on information from a series of questions, the configuration engine determines which standard or made to order PUPI crossarm is best suited for your project.

Built with years of fiberglass experience and utilities expertise
Geotek brings more than 35 years of fiberglass pultrusion experience to the PUPI manufacturing process. Engineered for the unique demands of the utilities industry, PUPI crossarm performance continues to improve thanks to years of testing and research.
Strength and deflection testing
Numerous mechanical tests from independent test facilities demonstrate that PUPI crossarms exceed stated load limits. For example, PUPI 8 ft crossarms tested at 30,010 lb loads (15,005 lbs per side) experienced more than 5” of deflection without compromising structural integrity.

Good deflection vs. fracture.
Unlike the natural variances found in wood beams, PUPI fiberglass crossarms are known for their uniform and predictable strength – in any climate. Tests comparing an
8 ft PUPI crossarm and a similar size wood beam show that around 2,800 pounds wood deflects a little over an inch and fails. The PUPI crossarm under the same weight is structurally sound and hasn’t even reached half its load rate. PUPI fiberglass crossarms show predictable deflection that greatly enhances reliability and the ability to withstand transient and impulse loads in extreme conditions.
